Assam is a state in northeastern India known for its wildlife, archeological sites and tea plantations. Best Time to Visit Assam
October to April are the best months to visit Assam. While Assam sweats in the scorching heat during Summers, the state experiences high rainfall and humidity during Monsoon. October to April, when the weather is pleasant with sunny days and cool nights, rainfall is moderate, and the paddy fields look resplendent, is the best time to visit Assam.
Summer (April – June)
The summer season is the most popular with tourists as the widest range of activities are open. The temperature averages around 30 to 35 degrees Celcius and the climate is pleasant. Lower temperatures are present earlier in the summer till April, and the highest temperature is seen during May. Summer is also the best time to visit the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries since animals are drawn towards waterholes to escape from the heat.
Monsoon (July – September)
Monsoon lasts from July to September and temperatures are slightly lower than in summer averaging at 28 to 32 degrees Celcius. There are frequent heavy showers as well as storms across the state and this can cause issues with travel and may restrict the number of activities tourists can do. The presence of multiple river basins also leads to frequent flooding of the low-lying areas that border the river. It is best to avoid the monsoons.
Winter (October – March)
Winter is the most pleasant time to visit Assam since the temperature is very comfortable, ranging between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius. The fog that surrounds cities early in the morning is an incredible sight and winter also gives tourists the chance to visit forests in their full bloom. This is the perfect season for adventure activities like trekking and camping as well as sightseeing.
